Old Crazy Otaku Ramblings... 2003

Just a little warning... pictures and/or links might not all work on this page... I try to update pages but as the years go on this one might become broken... Just to warn you!

Stop the presses!! I would like to humbly announce a terrific, fantastic, wonderful, brilliant, brand new and a breath of fresh air, something you've NEVER seen or read anywhere else.... Drumroll please!!!!

Fanfiction by Susan D. Wiese!!!!!

You've never read anything like it! Trigun like you've never seen it before! Picture this: Two women, far from home, facing dangers unknown - our favorite insurance girls before the Great Fall... YES. Before! This story is a what-if that is facinating and captures your imagination! What if Vash and Knives weren't the first to wander this desolate planet of Gunsmoke? What if there were two brave women who did it first? Only to find out that it hid a powerful secret? What if they were Meryl and Milly?! YES. So please, don't read any more of my drivel... Check out "Meeting Mom" and you'll thank me later - or - you'll thank Susan!!
Oh yeah, and this comes from a die-hard Trigun fan... stickler to the truth, heckler of those who get the facts wrong... hee hee hee!! I just love this story! And there's much more to come!

       December 16, 2003
Tonight I'm adding in a couple new black and white sketches of Milly and Meryl. They are the originals that I combined to make the colored picture here. It's a mixed media piece, originally drawn in pencil, scanned, added together, printed out. Then I painted it with acrylic, added colored pencil, and a watercolor background, then scanned again and finishing touches on the computer. The picture is merely a preview to the story my friend Susan has written called "Meeting Mom" (at the moment) which is a Trigun Fanfiction about Milly and Meryl. The story is really different, taking place with a twist to the Trigun story - just imagine if Milly and Meryl came from Earth too, and crash-landed on the planet before Rem and the others did. I think everyone else will like it as much as I did! As soon as it comes out in its final form I'll post it all for you to enjoy! Keep checking back!!

Added a new pic to my art gallery. It's got Vash and Meryl together (like they should be!) and although I'm not really happy at how it turned out I thought I'd put it up for others to look at. Maybe it will grow on me... If someone was wondering, Vash's coat is a bit different than you've seen before because it is based on his third coat from Trigun Maximum #3. Just thought I'd give some background. Enjoy!

I finished all of the Trigun summaries for your perusual. I'm sure you'll enjoy the quotes I added for kicks. Hope this feeds everyone's fetishes until it comes back on! This is a picture of Wolfwood from Trigun Maximum #9. I thought I'd share it since it's so awesomely cool that I can't stand it. Hee hee!! I was never much for Wolfwood really until this latest manga because well, as I said before, that's all the manga deals with is Nick. Let's see, if no one's read my comparison page this picture might be a bit confusing - but basically you've got to remember that Wolfwood doesn't die - he has some kind of drug that heals him, and I think it has something to do with the group he's with, "The Eye of Michael" who are a bunch of Plant worshippers (yes, the angel-like beings in the lightbulbs) and the fact that they can heal themselves - just look at Knives. Anyway, I think that's where the drugs came from - and in this scene, Nick is healing his wounds.... Make way for "Nicholas the Punisher"!!!

Just added a new drawing tonight with Meryl and Milly Here. Look in the section for our favorite Insurance Girls and click on the far right picture to see the full thing! I also added a bit more to the episode summaries, only 11 more episodes to go!

       November 22, 2003
Added to the "You Know You Like Trigun When..." tonight. I just received an email and I had to add a couple more as well as update a few, just for the heck of it. Anyone else have any suggestions? I'd like to get up to 100 reasons... Nothing new really on the Trigun Maximum front. As for the Chobits side, check out Manga vs. Anime section. I've got a few more facts up there too. Also looking for suggestions on comparisons for Trigun too. See, I wish they'd make another Trigun anime, but I can't come up with a possible solution, except maybe for an idea tied to Chobits. See, CLAMP wrote this series called Angelic Layer (I just bought the DVD, that's why I'm mentioning it) and in order to continue dealing in the same world, they wrote Chobits and tied some of the characters to each other. For example, the creator of the Angels also created the Chobits, so it's kind of cool. So sometimes I think if they were to create another anime, maybe they could deal with the characters in Trigun's world, only years down the road - maybe when there are more plants like Vash & Knives and how they deal with life. Well, at least I would be interested!!

Here you go, a look at Trigun Maximum #9. Just the cover obviously, but it's kind of deceiving. So I was very excited to get my copy merely 2 weeks after its release in Japan, and so I started into it right away thinking 'Ah, more Vash...' (Yeah, I'm kinda like that) only to find out that the whole book is about Wolfwood! For all you fans of Wolfwood - I'll spoil something for you, see, he's actually a lot younger than he looks. This book proves the point, you see the orphanage he's alway talking about - and the kids there are the same ones in his flashbacks - only they have aged maybe 5 years, but he's 20 years older... At first they don't even recognize him. He takes this "medicine" or something and it heals him almost instantly, but it also speeds up aging. Believe me, in this book he needs it, he fights one of the Gung-ho Guns named "Levio the Double Fang" - at least we think so until he becomes "Razlo the Tri-P of Death"... Nastiest of all, he has 3 Punishers (Tri-P) like Wolfwood's, and the arms to use them!! At the end of #9 I was really starting to wonder whether Wolfwood was going to make it (he gets pretty beaten up but he's an awful lot like Spike, takes a beating...) but it looks like from this Young King Ours Cover you can see Wolfwood's still around. Well, I'll keep everyone updated in the months to come.

I meant to update this website a week ago. Unfortunately this website keeps crashing. What can you expect for free though? I guess... But I think I've found a way around it by just writing these pages first and then downloading them. We'll see if it works - if it does I'll have the rest of the Trigun episode guide done in no time at all. Watch for it! I just got my Trigun Maximum #9 today!! So I've started a chapter guide for Maximum - unfortunately #9's titles are all in Kanji so it might be awhile before I can translate them for you. Sigh... Trigun is off Adult Swim for the time being - I hope you aren't all missing it too much!!! ;o)

Okay, I got Trigun in English. Everyone HAS to get it. It's awesome and explains some things you might not get from the anime. I have Trigun Maximum #9 on order. It just came out two days ago in Japan, means it will take a month to get here... Ah well, if you're an old anime fan then you'll appreciate how fast you can get stuff now. I'm working at getting more of these pages updated but it seems I can only do two saves before my computer crashes! Hope no one is waiting on any information!

     October 20,2003
After checking out my local anime store (which isn't quite so local) I stopped at Borders this weekend and there it was... The #1 Trigun Manga in ENGLISH. I had to flip through it (though I didn't get it yet, I already have the Japanese). So you might be asking, is it accurate? Yes. Pretty much so. Although I didn't have both books to do a comparison. If you like Trigun though, buy it. It's twice as thick as a normal Tokyopop manga but only $15.

Also at my fav Anime stop (Wizzywigs in Ann Arbor, MI) I picked up the first Cowboy Bebop soundtrack. It's pretty good. Also got the Haibane Renmei (DVD #2 coming this month). I'm always looking for new stuff. Just had a showing at the Animania club (U of M) and saw "Scrapped Princess" - fan sub, it's pretty good, everyone should check it out. If you can't, I think it will probably come to the US - it should, it's done by the animators of .Hack//Sign, and you should know how good that is. Enjoy!

     October 3, 2003
Just been updating my episode guide. Sorry it's been taking so long... My computer keeps freezing on me after I've written one or two episodes! Arg! Oh yeah, I'm not sure how accurate some of the quotes are. Haven't sat down with the series in awhile to make sure they're completely right yet. Anyone read Kare Kano - His and Her Circumstances? I was just introduced to the series by the University of Michigan - Flint Fanimania club a couple weeks back - the animé and the manga are really something. If you like FLCL, Evangelion or anything by Gainax, you're sure to like it.

     September 7, 2003
To all you manga readers: Trigun Maximum #9 is being released in Japan on October 24th. That probably means it will be close to next year before it starts showing up in the USA, but if you're in Japan, feel free to look for it (if you aren't already reading the newest Young King Ours!!) Gotta love reading manga in nihongo - japanese!

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. I'm adding more recommendations to my anime page... Reason I've been so busy! Check out Haibane Renmei, you'll like it if you've seen Serial Expirements Lain or Niea_7 - heck, if you've seen FLCL then those other shows are right up your ally and you'll like all three. There's also a few new manga out there you should check out while you wait for Trigun.... FLCL, .Hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, Excel Saga, and try some of the oldies but goodies, Love Hina, Chobits, Cardcaptor Sakura The Master of the Clow, and oh yeah, Angelic Layer - the anime is coming October 14, 2003.

Also check out my Trigun Episode Guide. I'm just starting it, so please be patient! Just watch out for spoilers... Oh yeah, there will be quotes on that page eventually too!

Put up one new desktop today, it's a collage of Wolfwood scans from the manga. Simple, easy, black and white. So, how many of you like Wolfwood? I do, he's sexy. :o)

So I was pondering some things the other day as I was working on translating Trigun Maximum 2 & 3... For those of you who only know about Trigun anime... The Trigun anime runs up accurately only through Trigun Maximum #1, after that they kind of wandered off in different directions. Actually, at the end of #2, Yasuhiro Nightow mentions that they would be making the show. The anime has a handful of shows that don't even show up in manga form (see my anime vs. manga page - but beware of spoilers!). Trigun Maximum gives a whole new spin to much of the story, but it's never been animated, and in fact, the series isn't finished yet. They just released book #8 this year in April. More is being released in the Young King Ours publication.

So.... WILL THERE BE A TRIGUN MAXIMUM ANIME? The answer to that is probably "NO". There are a few reasons for this. One, due to the changes that occurred while making the first anime, some of the characters die that are very important in Trigun Maximum (I won't tell you who!). Another is the fact that Vash kind of resolves the Knives problem, but nothing of this sort occurs in Maximum... Not as of yet anyway. Basically, IF they were to make a second series of Trigun they would have to go on a different tangent than Maximum, and they probably wouldn't call it Trigun Maximum... Kind of like what happened when they made DragonBall GT - it's not based on manga at all. So I hope that answers your questions!

Changed the look a bit for my homepage. I was considering putting up an "about me" page but I thought instead I'd just put up a few facts about me right here: I'm a Gemini, female, blue eyes, beauty mark under my left eye (yes, just like Vash) I work in a frame shop - I love art, graphics, and writing. Although I don't think you'll ever find any fanfiction on Trigun here, I like what's already been written too much! But if you want to read something I've written check out my other site Here. Oh and I guess there are pictures up on that site if you're so inclined to know more.

I just got a hold of "Trigun: The First Donuts" sndtrk, as well as the "Second Donuts Happy Pack" the other day - the drama tracks are pretty hilarious, although you have to understand Japanese or find a good place online for translations. Check out "A Little Lightbulb in Your Soul" and download the Insurance tracks from... You know, those places we're not supposed to know about due to all of those copyright laws... But you'll be glad you did!!

Also picked up the Chobits sndtrk and the Serial Expirements Lain, oh yeah, .Hack//Sign 1&2, .Hack//Liminality (gotta love the games), and Hellsing 1&2... Be warned though, if you like the opening for Lain, it's NOT on there, it's done by a gal named "BOA" not "BoA" (yes, there's a difference) from her "Night of a Thousand Camels" CD - you'll probably have to download it, I had to get my copy from Yahoo.uk. The CD is in English, it's pretty good too.

Oh yeah, look for my new Anime reccomendations page!

Added a few more facts in Manga Vs. Anime. I'm also about to add four more fan drawings by yours truly. I decided the other day to try a set of our four Trigun good guys - Vash, Wolfwood, Meryl, and Milly. All of the drawings are based on panels from Trigun Maximum (different books) but I've finished out heads where the panel cuts off or word bubbles cover over parts of them. Also I've given more detail than you'd see in the manga. If you like what you see drop me a line!

     July 15, 2003
I added "You Know You Like Trigun *Too Much* When..." yesterday. Got a kick out of it when other websites nailed my obsession right on the head, so I thought I'd base one on the progression of how I fell for Trigun... Top 60 and I'm sure I'll add more eventually.

Just added my own personal Trigun Maximum backgrounds and images. I'll probably get some more up here eventually when I scan them. I like taking the images from the manga and painting them. Nothing like seeing a manga in color right? Besides, black and white never conveys the color of Vash's eyes. Heh heh heh.

Can't believe this site is growing as fast as it is. In the past it's taken quite a bit of time for me to get up more than a couple pages. But what do you know? This obsession is still going steady... It is a pity that most pages out there were done a couple of years ago. Still, there's gotta be people who joined in after it started airing on the Cartoon Network, right? Are you out there? Anyone??? "I'm all alone... I hate being alone..." ;o)

     July 3, 2003
Okay, got my books and I am so thankful to everyone who has translations on their sites because, oh yeah, it's nice to be able to read Trigun Maximum in English... But I am working slowy through Max #3 translating it, but if anyone has it then please email me, I would like to have it!!

Hope everyone has a good 4th of July - don't forget to remember July 21st too... It's the day July City was destroyed. Sniff sniff, even though I can't read Japanese I cried looking through that book... I think it's Max #5. Also cried in #7 seeing Tessla... Ah yes, Tessla... If you aren't a manga fan you wouldn't know about her - check out my page on Anime VS Manga to find out the scoup on the REAL reason that Knives wants to destroy the planet!!

     June 25, 2003
I was just informed that my TRIGUN MAXIMUM #7 & #8 are on their way (grins). It really is amazing how different the anime is from the manga. For one thing, there's Wolfwood - if you haven't seen the anime all the way through I won't spoil it for you, but in the manga he plays a heck of a big part. I'm going to put up a page today of spoilers so look for it.
Oh yeah, and new fan art by yours truly! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE YOUR ART POSTED too, email me and I'll put you up with your own page. I love Fanart!!

     June 23, 2003
So I've been picking up a few pictures of the TRIGUN anime, so I'll be adding a photo gallery this evening. I got them from the "Up in Smoke - Trigun Gallery" link on the main page. They aren't in thumbnail format so they're big, I don't have many of them, and well, only reason I have them up is because they're really cool... You'll see why I think so from "ALT" tags, run your mouse over them.
Might take me awhile to put anything more up here. Quite frankly, this is only for my obsession as it is, so I'll do what I like!! Hee hee - is that mean? Hope you don't get offended....

     June 20, 2003
This website has been up for I don't know, three days now I think. So when it comes to listing what's new, everything is so here's a run-down of what's on this site:
1. Vash the Stampede art gallery (3 pics)
2. Pokemon art gallery (16 pics)
3. Otaku Ramblings - the page you're on.

So here's what I have planned to come in the following weeks:
1. Anime Recomendations
2. Anime to Manga Comparisons (Chobits & Trigun)
3. Photo galleries (whatever I can find online or scan in good conscience)
4. Links - especially places you can buy anime and manga - my favorites

I know, no one's been to this site yet, but if for some reason you're here for the first time and you have suggestions for what you'd like to see (I always do, but I never get responses from those I email) - BTW, I promise to write anyone who writes me, in fact, I think I'm going to get a new email addy just for this site... Just because I get waaay too much spam at my old addy. Oh yeah, so write me if you want, or just sign my guestbook, I'll get one of those up soon (today) too.

Email Ricki
